Your support will allow groundbreaking this fall or next spring for the longtime dream of a multi-faceted, totally accessible sports complex for people with developmental disabilities in Fairfield and nearby counties.
The focal point will be a 260,000 square foot playing field with a rubberized surface on 10 acres adjacent to Forest Rose School. The complex will initially accommodate baseball, softball and soccer, and eventually tennis, basketball, bocce ball, kickball, beach volleyball, and other activities. The complex also will serve Special Olympics events and outdoor adaptive physical education classes at the Fairfield DD’s Forest Rose School.
In addition, there will be a concession stand, public restrooms, parking, covered benches with wheelchair seating, restrooms, concession stands, bleacher seats, outdoor lighting, and a large shelter house.
The non-profit All-Accessible Sports Complex and Park Inc. Fund is the driving force behind this public-private partnership, which also includes Fairfield County commissioners, Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and the Fairfield County Foundation.
They seek donations, grants, in-kind labor, and help in acquiring sports and other equipment. The publicity and fundraising campaign will build and maintain the facility itself and provide quality youth and adult programming and scheduling for those with disabilities.
